It was an ordinary day but nothing seemed ordinary to the rotaractors of ICBT. The atmosphere wasn’t the same, faces seemed dull while fear crossed some of these faces. Something didn’t seem right. Darkness began to hover the city of Colombo day by day and strange activities leveled up around these guys. The strangest, being, the sudden disappearance of our President, Rtr. Jehaad.
Dark clouds hustled by, thick drops of rain splashed onto every surface available while the roars of the skies echoed through the streets causing loose windows to vigorously shake and shatter. Branches of lightning that spread through the sky was the only light that was visible. Due to lack of choice, Rtr. Basharath and Rtr. Methmi went into Rtr.Jehaad's house to dig deep into this mystery regardless of the harsh weather. Sounds escaped from a locked door as they searched the house, followed by a high pitched scream from Rtr. Methmi as she went to fetch a tool to break the door lock. Unfortunately, Rtr. Basharath who ran for her rescue was knocked down as well. It was one of the darkest days for the Rotaractors of ICBT.
One week later
On the 18th of October a portal between the world of the spirits of the deceased and our world opened up at the Havelock City Clubhouse bringing the beliefs of the ancient Celts into remembrance. Ancients Celts believed in the return of spirits. Hence, they disguised themselves as ghouls and ghosts to avoid letting spirits mistake them for humans and celebrated it as the Samhain festival which is now known as Halloween.
The Clubhouse was filled with witches chanting and plotting their evil schemes around a cauldron next to a graveyard, with corners covered in cobwebs and giant spiders and blood dripping heads cut off from humans hanging at the entrance to the portal. The center of attention was the mighty throne with a movable ghoul seated on it constructed by one of our own rotaractors to provide the freakiest Halloween experience.
The place was graced with angels and demons, prisoners and wicked jokers, gangsters, zombies and Harley Quinn’s, corpse brides, Nuns to Dracula’s and much more! Out of which the best costume and best performer was chosen by the amazing judges for the day, Minoli Dayaratne and Tymeron Carvalho, Who also appreciated the bravery for cosplaying princess jasmine, being a boy and the uniqueness of the appearance of a MC Donald’s delivery guy in a costume competition!
The hearts of each and every person was surely captured that night by the electrifying music by DJ Trev and his crew who kept the spirit of the house intact. It does not end there, Rtr. Jehaad was found wandering the hall with half of his face burnt, Rtr. Methmi with a long red hoodie, surely not on her way to see her grandma and Rtr. Basharath with stitches all over his face, carrying a pole. God knows what happened…
What more could you ask for to mark the 18th of October as the freakiest Friday of all!?
Freaky Friday will always remain freakishly cherished in the hearts of Rotaractors of ICBT as it served as a platform for the members to stir their creativity and bring their ideas into reality, and for being a reminder of the success of hard work and the power of team work. And most importantly, for providing an opportunity for people to break out of their monotonous routines of life, walk in a different identity and indulge in a completely different experience for once.
The mystery behind the disappearance remains untold up to this day. Know anything about it? Sshhhhhuushhhh…….unless you want to be gone for good.
